Millions of men, women and children are victims of human trafficking
for sexual, forced labor and other forms of exploitation worldwide. According to the UN Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, 79% of
the many millions of victims of human trafficking are women, with
forced prostitution the second most common form of exploitation (after
forced labour).
The human and economic costs of this take an
immense toll on individuals and communities. Some causes of human
trafficking are poverty, ignorance, unemployment in the country, and
desperation.
